A member of the Zulu royal family have come out publicly to state his support for the king's decision to remove his traditional Prime Minister, Thulasizwe Buthelezi.
King Misuzulu kaZwelithini announced yesterday that he is replacing Buthelezi with his deputy, Inkosi Pathisizwe Chiliza.
Royal family member Prince Africa Zulu, in a statement, said that he is in full support of the move.
“I fully support the decision taken by His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to remove the former Prime Minister from his duties. His Majesty has both the responsibility and the authority to protect the integrity of the Zulu royal household, and I believe this decision was taken in the best interests of the Zulu nation and the institution of the Zulu monarchy.
“I have also noted with great appreciation that His Majesty’s decision has been widely welcomed and celebrated across the Zulu nation, cutting across traditional communities, political affiliations, and different sectors of society. This demonstrates the confidence that many people have in His Majesty’s leadership and in his commitment to protecting the integrity of the Zulu royal household,” he said.
Prince Africa Zulu added that from where he stood, this decision was necessary. “I have had concerns for some time regarding the direction of the Office of the Prime Minister. There were failed attempts to restructure the office in a way that sidelined many of us who have served the royal household for years and who remain committed to the institution. That was deeply concerning because the Office of the Prime Minister should unite those who serve His Majesty, not create divisions among them.
“The Office of the Prime Minister exists to serve His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and to uphold the dignity, customs, and traditions of the Zulu Royal Family. Anyone entrusted with that responsibility must always place the interests of His Majesty and the institution above personal interests. Respect for the Zulu royal family, its customs, and traditions is not optional—it is the very foundation of the office.
Prince Africa Zulu congratulated the newly appointed Prime Minister, Inkosi Chilizwa, on his appointment and conveyed well wishes to Buthelezi in his future endeavours.
