A 31-year-old woman has been shot and killed in Woodstock, Cape Town, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to police, the woman was standing near a public toilet on Aberdeen Street when she was approached by an unknown man. The suspect allegedly spoke to her briefly before drawing a firearm and shooting her in the face.
"Woodstock police registered a case of murder following a shooting incident at Aberdeen Street on Saturday 27 June 2026, at about 07:03. According to reports, the deceased was standing in front of a public toilet when an unknown male suspect walked up to her and conversed for a few minutes before drawing a firearm and firing one shot at her face," the police said.
The police added that the suspect fled the scene on foot towards Victoria Road before getting into a minibus taxi. They said the 31-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
"He then ran towards Victoria Road and got into a minibus. The 31-year-old female was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is a subject of police investigation, and no arrest has been effected at this stage,"
Last month, IOL also reported that Woodstock police are investigating the murder of a 43-year-old man who was gunned down in Tennyson Street, Salt River, on Tuesday, May 5.
Provincial police spokesperson, Constable Ndakhe Gwala, said that Woodstock police were responding to reports of a shooting in Tennyson Street at around 8.40pm. “Upon arrival, they found a 43-year-old male lying on the pavement with multiple gunshot wounds on his head and face,” he said.
