We really thought the Kardashians had already taken up enough space in pop culture, didn’t we? We thought we were safe. We thought we had boundaries. And yet here we are … staring down the barrel of AI glasses designed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner.
Meta has expanded its AI glasses line-up, and this time it has brought in Jenner because nothing says “the future of technology” quite like a reality TV billionaire helping design eyewear that listens to you, watches for you and probably judges your life choices in HD.
At this point, one has to ask: do we actually need more AI in our lives, or are we just speed-running towards a sci-fi movie where our sunglasses start giving us unsolicited advice?
The new range launches at a starting price of $399, which converts to roughly R7,500 (give or take, depending on how the rand is feeling about itself that day).
So yes, for the price of a small panic and a grocery run, you too can have glasses that may or may not be low-key spying on your existence in style.
The collection includes three silhouettes: the rectangular Meta Adventurer, the bold Meta Fury, and the slightly more dramatic “Meta Glasses by Kylie” - a slim oval frame designed with the kind of aesthetic energy that says, “I don’t just see the future, I am the future.”
Meta says there are 26 style combinations, which feels generous until you realise that’s just corporate speak for we gave you enough options so you stop asking questions.
Of course, these glasses don’t just sit pretty. They come packed with Meta AI, hands-free photo and video capture, open-ear audio, and prescription support. In other words, they are doing everything except living your life for you - although we are probably one update away from that too.
And just to remind us how deep we’re in this timeline, Meta’s total eyewear lineup now sits at over 70 styles and shapes. Seventy guys.
So yes, while the world debates AI taking over jobs, creativity and possibly our last remaining brain cells, we now also get to worry about whether Kylie Jenner’s sunglasses are recording our awkward supermarket behaviour in 4K.
But don’t worry. It’s fine. It’s all fine. We’re fine. The glasses are definitely not judging us.
