GIRL! That’s all that needs to be said because the elders are outside, and they are making the rest of us look unemployed in spirit.
If you thought waking up at 30 comes with back aches, cancelled plans and “I will just rest today, thanks,” think again because 92-year-old Joan Collins just reminded us that laziness is a choice and she has never embraced it.
The Hollywood icon returned to the Cannes Film Festival after a nearly decade-long break and did not ease back in quietly. She arrived like she still owns the building.
For the opening ceremony at the Palais des Festivals, Collins stepped out in a sculptural white gown that looked like it had its own fan base.
The custom Stéphane Rolland Haute Couture orchid dress was paired with diamond chandelier earrings, a statement necklace and black opera gloves that said: “I have never heard of insecurity.” It was elegant, dramatic and slightly insulting to everyone who left the house in basic black.
It was like the softer version of what Cardi B wore to the Met Gala, that look made my stomach turn by the way.
But, of course, more elegant because imagine them rocking up in a Kim Kardashian outfit. Or shall I say, a Bianca Censori outfit. Too soon?
But Collins was not alone in reminding us that age is not a limitation; it is just a setting.
Jane Fonda, 88, also proved that retirement is not in her vocabulary. The icon from "Monster-in-Law", a film that still deserves respect because comedy like that does not age, even if we do, arrived in a structured Gucci gown featuring a high neck, structured shoulders, and long sleeves.
The full-length skirt surpassed her ankles and pooled elegantly around her feet. It was giving class disco ball vibes.
Between Jones and Fonda, the message is loud: the seniors are not slowing down; they are still rocking red carpets while the rest of us are negotiating with our alarm clocks.
