In one of the most heartwarming moments of the 2026 Fifa World Cup so far, a young boy who was pictured in a viral clip wearing a green Christmas jersey that closely resembled his nation’s colours has been tracked down and gifted an official Mexico jersey.

The video of the boy cheering on his team during Mexico’s opening match of the Fifa World Cup quickly spread across social media. Mexico beat Bafana Bafana 2-0 at the Estadio Azteca on June 11.

The youngster was seen celebrating enthusiastically after each of his side’s goals, with viewers immediately drawn to his festive-looking shirt.

Mexican broadcaster Claro Sports then made it their mission to identify the fan and surprise him with the proper supporters’ kit.

Social Media Celebrates Young Fan’s Gesture with Mexico Shirt

Social media users were unanimous in their praise for the gesture.

In a follow-up video posted by Claro Sports after tracking him down, the boy is first seen wearing the now-famous Christmas jersey before the footage cuts to the delighted youngster proudly sporting the official Mexico shirt.

One user wrote: “He’s a World Cup icon.”

Another said: “This boy brought us all Christmas early 🙌. So glad he got his shirt though.”

A third added: “I love the internet, we came full circle 🥲.”

Mexico currently top Group A following their comfortable victory and sit on three points. They are followed by South Korea, who also have three points but trail on goal difference. Czechia are third, while Bafana occupy bottom spot.
