The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced the recall of 146 Hino 300 series vehicles in South Africa.
According to the consumer watchdog, the affected vehicles may contain a faulty component in the combination meter circuit board, which could cause the speedometer and odometer to malfunction.
The recall applies to Hino 300 series models distributed nationally between 14 March and 19 October 2025.
"The affected models include XZU600R, XZU650R, XZU720R, and XZU730R.
"According to the supplier, an incorrect component might have been installed in the circuit board of the combination meter. This may cause the component to overheat and result in a malfunction of the speedometer and/or odometer. A malfunction of the speedometer and/or odometer may increase the risk of unsafe driving conditions".
The NCC added that owners of affected vehicles are urged to take their trucks to the nearest authorised Toyota dealership for inspection and replacement of the combination meter at no cost.
"Consumers who own affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised Toyota dealership for inspection and the necessary replacement of the combination meter, which will be carried out at no cost to the consumer".
The NCC also said that product recalls play an important role in protecting consumer safety and preventing potential harm associated with defective products.
