Discovery Bank CEO Hylton Kallner pocketed a jaw-dropping R61.1 million for the financial year ending June 30, 2025, cementing his position as the highest-paid executive in the group.
Kallner has been with the group since 1996, holding various leadership roles before taking the helm at the Bank in 2021.
This is according to the group’s latest remuneration report, which revealed that Kallner’s package includes a base salary of R8.7 million alongside over R25 million in performance bonuses and long-term incentives.

"HD Kallner’s single figure remuneration for FY2025 includes the standard SIP and the OPSI for achieving stretch targets in his composite for the year," the report stated.
Kallner’s pay comes as Discovery posted strong results, breaking even for the first time. According to reports, the bank grew its client base by 30%, advances by 39%, and deposits by 26%.
The report also revealed that Kallner’s remuneration was much higher than that of other top executives in the group. Group CEO Adrian Gore earned R37.2 million, while CFO Dein Viljoen and co-founder Barry Swartzberg received R29.7 million and R26.1 million.
"The disclosure of the LTIP reflected in FY2025 has been made in accordance with the transition arrangements recommended in the Guide to the Application of King IV: Remuneration Governance, issued by the Institute of Directors of South Africa and the South African Reward Association.
"The LTIP reflected includes the value of the deferred shares awarded as part of the single incentive determined on the basis of performance for the reporting year"
