The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) is gearing up for an exhilarating conclusion to its Nyoloha Scholarship Programme (NSP), which has become a beacon of hope for budding artists across South Africa. This year’s finale will feature two hallmark events: the ACT NSP Visual Arts Exhibition, taking place at the MTN Head Office in Fairland, Johannesburg, on Thursday, 9 October 2025, followed the next day by the ACT NSP Performing Arts Gala Showcase at Market Lab, Johannesburg. Both events promise to offer a rare glimpse into the talents of tomorrow and the creativity blossoming within the nation.
This year, the invitation-only Visual Arts Exhibition will serve as a prestigious platform where industry leaders, select media, producers, and corporate partners can mingle with the next generation of artists. As part of this momentous occasion, two scholarships worth R 300,000 each will be awarded to outstanding talents—one from the visual arts and the other from the performing arts. This scholarship is designed to support the winners in furthering their education at a South African arts institution of their choice, solidifying their paths in the creative industries.

The thrill of the finale is heightened by the remarkable journey of 60 talented young artists hailing from all nine provinces, who have participated in rigorous training and mentorship. Under the expert guidance of award-winning photographer and multimedia designer Dahlia Maubane, visual artists have honed their crafts, while performing artists have developed their skills under the mentorship of acclaimed musical theatre performer Grant Towers. From this talented collective, 15 finalists have emerged, ready to compete in the Nyoloha Finals Week. This sponsored experience will allow these finalists to engage in masterclasses, explore art institutions, and even produce a professional theatre production and exhibition, culminating in the much-anticipated announcement of the two scholarship recipients.
Adding to the excitement, celebrated South African actor and comedian Philip Dikotla will host the two final events, ensuring a vibrant and entertaining atmosphere that befits the talent and dedication of these young artists. The gala performance will also be live-streamed across the country through ACT’s social media channels, extending the reach and impact of this celebration.
Expressing gratitude towards long-term partners, Jessica Denyschen, CEO of ACT, emphasised the programme's role in empowering young creatives. "Over the years, it has trained and mentored over 200 artists, providing numerous professional opportunities and nurturing some of the country’s finest talents." She highlighted the importance of this year's gala showcase in celebrating the achievements of the 2025 finalists.
Industry sponsors have also expressed their support. Niel Nortjé, Manager of the MTN Art Collection, praised the finalists, stating, "Our partnership with ACT and the NSP shows our commitment to fostering career development opportunities for youth in the arts sector." Commenting on the challenge of selecting just 15 finalists, Poovi Pillay from Nedbank acknowledged the exceptional talent displayed by the participants, while Heidi Edson from Sun International underscored the significance of investing in the potential of youth in creative disciplines.
As the 2025 cohort approaches these pivotal moments in their artistic journeys, the ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme not only celebrates their hard work but also builds a foundation for lasting careers in the creative sector. With the stage set for an unforgettable finale, anticipation is mounting throughout the arts community as South Africa prepares to witness the next generation of artistic brilliance.
