In a tragic turn of events, three bodies, including a child, have washed ashore on Durban's southern beaches following severe storms.
Garrith Jamieson, the spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Medical Services, said the bodies of two women were found near Ansteys and Brighton beaches on the Bluff.
“Both women were declared deceased by paramedics on scene. The body of a child was also found washed up on Cuttings Beach.”
He added that it was yet to be confirmed if the child was one of five people believed to have been swept out into a canal in Lamontville during the early hours of the morning.
Meanwhile, an embankment collapsed causing a landslide along Foreshore Drive on the Bluff.
The road runs alongside Ansteys and Brighton beaches.
Zoe Solomon, ward 66 councillor, said three consecutive storms of such massive proportions have caused havoc on the road.
“This is the third time the road has been completely closed. However, disaster management, the building inspectorate and environmental department are all alerted to this landslide and issue at the residence.”
