Run out: Tristan Stubbs
Temba Bavuma and Stubbs were batting beautifully together, but like we’ve seen throughout the Test that neither team is able to push home their advantage. And that’s exactly how Bavuma and Stubbs conspired to formulate a mix up that saw Stubbs run out needlessly.
Short ball: David Bedingham
Asitha Fernando has enjoyed a royal battle with David Bedingham in this Test match. In the first innings, he should have ‘Bedders’ twice caught in the deep on the leg-side. With that at the forefront of his mind, Fernando continued to land the ball in the middle of the pitch to test the WP star. Although visibly uncomfortable, Bedingham showed some gumption this time around by ducking weaving out of the way.
Shot: Dane Paterson
The 35-year-old is enjoying the Test of his life. Five wickets in the first innings and another two in the second. But the veteran would have enjoyed his swipe for six in the Proteas’ second innings with equal pleasure as it was the cherry on his cake.
Ball: Keshav Maharaj
The left-arm spinner produced a special delivery to dismiss veteran Angelo Mathews. It had all the ingredients with the flight flummoxing Mathews into attempting a big hit over mid-wicket. But instead the ball spun back viciously and cleaned up the experienced Mathews.
Partnership: De Silva and Mendis
Sri Lanka looked out for the count at 122/5 and everyone was contemplating an early finish. But the tourists had shown since their first innings nightmare in Durban, that they are not going to just roll over here in South Africa. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Mendis ensured they did not with an unbroken 83-run stand that has taken the Test into a fifth and final day. The duration of their partnership on Monday is the key to the entire outcome of the gripping Test match.
