The much-anticipated new range of Apple products was announced in Cupertino, California, on Wednesday, and the improvements across the board to all new iPhones were the clear winner.
The main improvement was that all iPhones receive ProMotion displays. This means that for the first time, every phone in the Apple lineup will be capable of 120Hz displays depending on the situation.
In layman's terms, the screens will feature smoother scrolling and appear more responsive.
The new A19 chip will also be used in the 17 range, but that’s no surprise as a new chip has to be used with each generation.
Perhaps the biggest change though, is the redesign of the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max. It’s the first time in five years since the look has been radically changed. It has to do with the housing of the three-camera system on the back which will now feature a rectangular camera bump instead of the smaller square design on the 16.
The new colours for the Pro and Pro Max will be “an elegant deep blue, a bold cosmic orange, and a refined silver.”
Here is a rundown of all the new products launched by Apple:
Better active noise cancellation (claimed to be 2x compared to AirPods Pro 2), live language translation
S10 chip, always-on display for the first time on the SE model
Apple Watch Series 11
More scratch resistant (claimed to be 2x more compared to Series 10), new 5G technology, better battery, alerts to possible hypertension.
New brighter, bigger display.
Five colours: lavender, mist blue, black, white and sage. Larger 6.3” display with thinner borders, ProMotion (adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz) previously reserved only for pro models. Always on display. Higher max brightness.
New model, 6.5” display, 5.6mm thickness, thinnest iPhone, ProMotion (adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz) previously reserved only for pro models. Always on display. Claimed 3x better scratch resistance and 4x claimed resistance to cracks. New bump at top back of phone to house camera marketed as the ‘plateau’.
Radically redesigned look for iPhone Pro for first time since iPhone 12 way back in 2020. New thermal management system (marketed as a ‘vapour chamber’) for better sustained performance and battery. All base models begin with increased base storage of 256GB.
