Durban - In conjunction with the planned national SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge, KZN participants will now have the option to run 5km along Durban’s beachfront on September 3.

With Covid regulations a thing of the past, race organisers have added the physical race to make the event a hybrid challenge.

Those who had already entered the virtual race but would rather feel the breeze on the promenade in an in-person run are allowed to change prior to race day.

The 5km route will be run on the promenade, with the start and finish close to the Suncoast Casino.

Women not within eThekwini Municipality can still join virtually from around the country in their chosen route or with a Park Run they belong to.

Zinhle Ndawonde, Springbok women's rugby player and firefighter, is this year’s race ambassador.

Other women who have been chosen are actress and comedian Lisa Bobbert, former Proteas netball star and baby Proteas coach Precious Mthembu, as well as life coach, radio, TV and film personality Raeesa Mahomed.

Ndawonde said that the race was about women and empowering each other.

Race registration will take place at Suncoast between 10am and 6pm on September 1 and 2.

Combined entries between the virtual and the physical run are limited to 10 000 athletes. Participants can still enter and collect their race packs at participating KZN stores.
