New Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim bagged his first win at the club in his second game in charge, as his side overcame Norwegian outfit Bodø/glimt 3-2 in their Europa League clash at Old Trafford on Thursday.
Like they did in their drawn Premier League encounter against Ipswich a few days prior, United scored early as Alejandro Garnacho put his side ahead in the first minute.
Hakon Evjen levelled the scores in the 19th minute, before Philip Zinckernagel put the visitors ahead four minutes later.
United pulled level once more as Rasmus Hojlund scored on the verge of half-time to send the sides into the interval locked at 2-2.
Hojlund was not done yet as he scored United’s third to complete his brace shortly after the restart.
There would be no further changes to the scoreline, but United were well worth their victory with 73% possession and 20 shots at goal to the seven of the visitors.
Amorim was relieved his side managed to hang on for the win, he said after the match.
"Of course I see what everybody sees -- good moments, difficult moments, some confusion in the end trying to hold the result, but the lads did a great job," Amorim told TNT Sports.
"They ran, they pressed, they tried to do the thing we worked for these three days and we won.”
Amorim was also overcome with the reception he received by the home fans, as he’s only been with the club since November 11 and had led the team in one match before this clash.
"The first thing is that half of the stadium doesn't know me, doesn't really know me," he added. "I came from Portugal. I did nothing for this love yet so the way they made me feel at home, it's so special."
