With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Thembinkosi Lorch’s proposed move to Kaizer Chiefs appears unlikely.

Reports over the weekend indicated that Amakhosi had approached Mamelodi Sundowns to discuss a deal for the former Orlando Pirates forward.

However, SABC Sport now reports that Sundowns have offered to loan Lorch to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, currently coached by Rulani Mokwena. Wydad have been given until Friday to make a decision, while Lorch remains eager to leave.

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly hesitant to strengthen Chiefs, a direct rival, for the second half of the Betway Premiership season. Instead, they see Wydad as a fitting destination for the 31-year-old, particularly as it would reunite him with Mokwena, who previously worked with Lorch at Orlando Pirates.

This move could also allow Lorch to test himself in a new league, with Wydad being one of Africa's most successful clubs.

If Lorch were to join Chiefs, however, he would become one of a select group of players to represent both Soweto giants. Notable names who have made this switch include Marc Batchelor, Jimmy Tau, and Jabu Mahlangu. While rare, these high-profile moves are often met with mixed reactions from fans.

The PSL’s transfer window closes at midnight on Tuesday, leaving little time for Lorch’s future to be decided. For now, Sundowns hold the cards as one of South Africa’s most talented players waits to see where his next chapter will begin.

Whether former Orlando Pirates star Lorch stays at Sundowns, joins Chiefs, or moves abroad, his next move will be a major talking point for weeks to come.

Meanwhile, Chiefs made it official that they have signed Tashreeq Morris, Thabo Cele and Makabi Lilepo.
