Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained why influential midfielder Gastón Sirino did not feature against Richards Bay at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.

Amakhosi claimed hard fought a 2-1 victory over the Natal Rich Boys to move up to sixth place in the league. However, one of the major talking points was the omission of Sirino from the starting lineup, as he remained an unused substitute throughout the match.

The Uruguayan midfielder has been one of the key players for the Soweto giants this season, scoring two goals and providing four assists in seven appearances across all competitions.

Nabi explained that Sirino had only just recovered from an injury and that he had planned to give him some some minutes. However, the circumstances of the game did not allow for that.

“He’s coming from an injury, even the tournament that we played in PE (Home of legends Cup) he was injured.

“We were planning to give him some minutes during the game but given the circumstances with the red card we could not risk it but we’ll probably see him in the next games,” Nabi told the media.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys will lock horns against Royal AM on Saturday and will look to continue their winning ways to further climb further up the table.
