The struggles of Kaizer Chiefs in the last few years have been well-documented, but specifically this season has been something of a conundrum.

By all accounts, this season under coach Nasreddine Nabi, Chiefs have played better football while the results have still been underwhelming.

Chiefs are eighth on the Betway Premiership log, after a disappointing 10th place finish last term.

Over the weekend, Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung said Nabi has the club’s backing when asked about the side’s performance under the new coach this season.

“[We didn’t] get into this thinking we’d have quick results.

“We obviously know that this is a long game. We didn’t get into this thinking we’d have quick results. But certainly, I think the lessons are there. The analysis is there. The football team is working well with the coaches to ensure that things that must be addressed are addressed.”

After Chiefs’ defeat to Richards Bay earlier this month, Nabi said: “We are in the process of rebuilding a team and a big club such as Kaizer Chiefs is not built in six or seven months; you need more time than that.”

The 59-year-old Nabi led Young Africans to their league title in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons, but he has found rejuvenating the sleeping Soweto Giants a much more challenging task.

“I have a mission here with Kaizer Chiefs and I have big respect for the mission. I’m not here for the money, and I love this club and I’m strong, and I don’t lose my confidence quickly because I’m strong.”
