The Bulls are loaded with former Cape players, and the Stormers have a few who have called Pretoria home as well.
But will that give either team an edge in Saturday’s blockbuster United Rugby Championship showdown at Loftus Versfeld (5pm start)?
Here are five match-ups that could decide the winners...
Devon Williams v Warrick Gelant
Bulls fullback Williams has been in fine form over the last few weeks, cutting the line almost at will with his under-rated pace, while also using his left boot to good effect.
He is also a former Stormers man, hailing from Pniel near Stellenbosch, and will want to show his ex-team that he can still dish it out at the age of 32.
But the Cape side have an equally dangerous No 15 in Gelant, who was almost a one-man band in the recent defeat to the Lions with his bag of tricks that includes short and long passes, dummies and little grubbers.
Gelant made his name at the Bulls before joining the Stormers, so will be well acquainted with Loftus. But he will hope for more support from the rest of his backline to help unlock the Bulls defence.
Stedman Gans v Wandisile Simelane
Former Blitzboks captain Gans got a belated recall against the Lions last week, and showed Bulls coach Jake White just what he’s missing with a Player-of-the-Match performance.
Gans’ silky skills and ability to take an outside gap brought a real spark to the Bulls attack, and he will be relishing taking on a battling Stormers outfit.
Simelane, though, will be even more desperate to prove a point to White after being let go from the Bulls during a strange time when he featured more at wing and fullback than outside centre.
Nizaam Carr v Evan Roos
The experienced warhorse against the young pretender... Carr used to be the darling of Newlands as the Stormers No 8, and now he is utilising his classy repertoire with ball-in-hand to give the Bulls some spunk and leadership in the absence of three regular captains.
He will have his hands full in trying to contain the all-action Roos, who will eager to produce a big performance after coming off second-best against Cameron Hanekom recently.
Carr is a wily old fox, though, and knows the short-cuts around the pitch, so it makes for a fascinating duel.
Marco van Staden v Deon Fourie
The two scavengers will be going hell for leather at the breakdowns to try and win turnovers for their team, or at least down the opposition ball.
Both fetchers will also want to remind Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus of their abilities, and the key for Van Staden will be to get his timing just right and not give away penalties.
Fourie is the talisman in this Stormers pack, and he will need to come up with an inspirational display to give the Capetonians a chance of an upset.
Wilco Louw v Ali Vermaak
Louw has been destroying almost every tighthead in his wake in the scrums over the last two years, and has also been able to make some dents with his carries and tackles.
But Vermaak is no slouch at scrum-time, and knows all the ‘dark arts’ of the front row.
However, he would do well to just achieve parity and not concede any penalties.
