UFC Middleweight division champion Dricus du Plessis has hit back at Light Heavyweight division champion Alex Pereira after he called him a scared clown.

This is after Du Plessis successfully defended his title against two-time champion Israel Adesanya via submission at UFC 305 in Perth last month.

Pereira immediately called out the South African on his Instagram account, stating he would be going back down to 185.

“I’m going down to 84 kg against, coming down 185 one more time,” Pereira boldly declared.

Since then, the two have been going back on forth, however, Pereira took it up a notch this week on Monday when he said Du Plessis would be a much easier fight than John Jones, adding that he was scared to fight him.

“Dricus is an easier fight than fighting Jon Jones, I think making weight will be harder than the fight, but I did stop making that weight class because I said my body needed a break two or three fights without having to make that cut.

“He never takes it serious, so it shows that he’s scared, you know what I mean? Instead of him just saying, ‘Look, UFC. Let’s make me and Pereira fight.’ Clown,” Pereira said as per MMA Fighting.

However, Du Plessis hit back at Pereira on X, saying he was going too far, adding that he had no problem fighting him or Sean Strickland.

“A scared clown how dare you! Now that’s taking it to far. I’ve already said I’m in to fight either you or @SStricklandMMA what more do you want or should I tag your translator?”

However, the fight between the two is unlikely to happen any time soon, as former champion Sean Strickland has been tipped to fight Du Plessis for the title next.
