The Umvoti Municipality (Greytown) has received its first unqualified audit opinion with no material findings, according to a statement from Umvoti Municipality.
The statement said: "Umvoti Municipality under the leadership of His Worship Mayor Cllr GZ Malembe and Municipal Manager Noxolo Ndaba, made history by receiving its first unqualified audit opinion with no material findings from the Auditor General of South Africa."
Previously, the municipality had received unqualified audits but with material findings.
Umvoti Mayor GZ Malembe said that they welcome the unqualified audit opinion with no material findings from the AGSA.
"We achieved this regardless of political instability that has been experienced by the municipality. The administration managed to pull through using the legislative frameworks that govern local government, reflecting our commitment to ethical governance, sound financial management and accountability," Malembe said.
“I wish to take this opportunity to reiterate our earnest commitment to the socioeconomic advancement of the people of Umvoti. Our people must rest assured that we will continue to serve with integrity and to act in their best interests."
According to the statement, the municipality is reaping the benefits of focusing on running and maintaining a strong and effective administration that is rooted in its vision of being a financially viable, well-governed and sustainable organisation.
Municipal Manager Noxolo Ndaba has attributed the unqualified audit with no material findings to a dedicated and resilient leadership collective and workforce.
Ndaba said: “I wish to congratulate all employees who worked tirelessly in the background to help us to achieve this milestone."
"Our administration will continue to work hard and ensure that we keep raising the standard of clean and transparent governance so that positive outcomes like this one find expression in tangible service delivery, infrastructure development and improvement, investment into the growth of Umvoti’s economy as well as the upliftment of the people of Umvoti."
The municipality said that their efforts are being shifted towards attracting investment to Umvoti to foster economic growth which will create opportunities for all and accelerate service delivery.
