The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has confirmed a safety recall of Audi e-tron GT vehicles across South Africa.

This action follows a formal notification from Audi South Africa, a division of Volkswagen Group Africa (Pty) Ltd, regarding a potential defect in the braking mechanism.

The NCC’s spokesperson, Pheto Ntaba, said the recall affects 40 vehicles sold nationally between November 2, 2021, and March 20, 2026.

“Audi SA informed the National Consumer Commission that the recall is due to a bolted connection between the input rod on the brake pedal and the operating rod on the brake servo that may come loose. If the connection becomes completely detached, braking will only be possible using the controlled emergency braking function,” Ntaba said.

The Audi e-tron GT is the manufacturer's flagship high-performance electric sedan. While the South African electric vehicle market continues to grow, manufacturers are under strict NCC consumer protection guidelines to report any mechanical risks immediately.

Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to contact their nearest authorised Audi SA dealership to arrange for a priority inspection and repair.

“All corrective work relating to this recall will be carried out at no cost to the consumer. Consumers who have questions or enquiries about this recall are encouraged to contact [email protected],” Ntaba said.

Earlier this week, the NCC also issued an urgent recall for Zwilling Enfinigy water kettles sold across South Africa. A defect in the 1.5L and 1.5L Pro models may cause handles to break, posing a scalding risk. Affected model numbers include: 1005774, 1005775, 1008865, 1008867, 1020371, and 1020372.
