Madlanga Commission is expected to announce on Wednesday whether Crime Intel. Head, Maj-Gen. Feroz Khan, will still testify after surviving a suspected assassination attempt that has cast uncertainty over the proceedings.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed the commission was assessing the situation following Sunday's shooting in Houghton, Johannesburg, which left Khan hospitalised with gunshot wounds.
According to preliminary reports, two unidentified gunmen travelling in a white Mercedes-Benz allegedly opened fire on Khan before speeding away.
Investigators recovered at least two spent bullet casings at the scene, while reports indicate Khan sustained injuries to his lower body.
Michaels said the commission was closely monitoring developments and would provide an update on Wednesday's programme.
"In light of last night's incident, we will in due course make an announcement regarding the Commission's programme for Wednesday," he said.
He added that the commission was aware Khan had been wounded and wished him a speedy recovery.
Michaels also confirmed the commission was engaging with all relevant stakeholders, including the SAPS, while maintaining contact with Khan's legal representatives.
Khan, regarded as a crucial witness, was scheduled to appear before the commission on July 1, 2026.
His condition and recovery are now expected to determine the next steps.
Khan has been linked in proceedings to allegations of corruption, drug-related offences and illicit precious metals activity.
