North West police have confirmed that they made breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of social activist Thato Molosankwe, who was shot dead at his home in Lomanyaneng village on May 20.
Police confirmed the breakthrough in a media statement issued on Friday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said that following Molosankwe's murder, Acting North West Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo assembled a team from the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit to investigate the case.
"Today, there was a breakthrough in the investigation," Myburgh said.
Naidoo is expected to brief the media on the developments at the TTA Career Centre in Mahikeng at 2:14pm.
Molosankwe was widely known in the community for his outspoken stance against crime and corruption.
He worked closely with local law enforcement and community structures to improve public safety and strengthen accountability
Following the killing, Acting National Commissioner Lt-Gen Puleng Dimpane previously condemned the murder in the strongest terms, saying investigators would leave no stone unturned in their search for those behind the fatal shooting.
"Molosankwe has been described by local police as a community-minded individual who played an important role in assisting police efforts to combat crime and corruption, while strengthening relations between the SAPS and communities," police said in an earlier statement.
