Police confirmed a North West teenager who went missing last month has been found dead.

Olebogeng Felicia Tagote, 18, was last seen on Sunday, May 24, after leaving school.

At the time, she was wearing green school trousers, a white shirt, and a maroon pullover jersey.

Provincial police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ofentse Mokgadi, said the remains of the teenager were discovered near a bridge. She was sexually assaulted.

“The remains were discovered near a bridge along Bophuthatswana Road leading to Boitekong, close to a local primary school, during a coordinated search operation involving members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Community in Blue, and members of the community,” Mokgadi said.

A family member, who was present at the scene, identified the remains.

“The body was found in a partially decomposed state, and the cause of death is yet to be determined. Preliminary investigations further suggest that the victim may have been sexually assaulted, as she was found partially clothed. Consequently, a charge of rape has been added to the investigation,” Mokgadi said.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder and alleged rape are ongoing.

The Acting District Commissioner of Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2, Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the family of Olebogeng Felicia Tagote. She also thanked SAPS members, Community in Blue, and community members for their commitment and assistance during the search operation.

Police urge anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact Detective Sergeant Patrick Sebalane at 060 142 0796 or Detective Sergeant Peter Mosete at 078 926 3810 of the Boitekong Detectives.

Information may also be reported anonymously through Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS App.
