Mercedes-Benz Trucks has expanded its commercial vehicle offering in Southern Africa with the introduction of new Actros Base and Line Haul models aimed at long-haul and heavy-duty transport operations.
The new additions broaden the brand’s truck portfolio and provide transport operators with additional options tailored to different applications, from value-focused fleet operations to long-distance haulage where driver comfort and efficiency are key considerations.
The expanded line-up comprises the Actros 2645LS/33 Base, Actros 2652LS/33 Base, Actros 2645LS/33 Line Haul and Actros 2652LS/33 Line Haul.
According to Olaf Petersen, vice president of sales and marketing at Daimler Truck Southern Africa, the new models build on the company's established truck platforms while addressing changing customer requirements in the region.
He said the new derivatives were developed to make Mercedes-Benz Trucks more accessible to a broader customer base while maintaining the durability, reliability and operational efficiency associated with the brand.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks said the new range has been configured to address the varied transport requirements found across Southern Africa, where operators often face long distances, demanding road conditions and diverse freight applications.
The company's approach has been to align proven engineering with application-specific specifications, allowing customers to select a truck suited to their operational needs and budgets.
The new models also strengthen an existing product portfolio that includes the Actros Pure range, RoadEfficiency models, Fuel Specification derivatives for hazardous goods transport, and specialised Actros and Arocs models designed for niche applications.
The Base range is aimed at operators looking for a dependable and cost-conscious transport solution.
The Actros 2645LS/33 Base is equipped with a ClassicSpace Long Cab featuring a single bed and is powered by the OM460 engine. The six-cylinder engine delivers 330kW and 2,200Nm of torque, while a hydraulic retarder provides additional braking capability without contributing to brake wear.
Joining it is the Actros 2652LS/33 Base, which uses the larger OM473 engine. Producing 380kW and 2,600Nm of torque, the truck is designed for demanding transport applications and heavy loads.
It features air suspension, a high-performance engine brake and a range of driver-focused convenience features.

For operators covering extended distances, the Line Haul models place greater emphasis on driver comfort while retaining the performance capabilities required for long-haul operations.
The Actros 2645LS/33 Line Haul features a StreamSpace Long Cab fitted with dual beds to support multi-day journeys. Power comes from the OM460 engine, which develops 330kW and 2,200Nm of torque. A hydraulic retarder, air suspension and advanced safety systems form part of the package.
At the top of the range is the Actros 2652LS/33 Line Haul. Equipped with the OM473 engine, it produces 380kW and 2,600Nm of torque and incorporates a High-Performance Engine Brake. The StreamSpace cab with dual beds is designed to provide improved accommodation for drivers spending extended periods on the road.
Across the range, all four models share a Gross Combination Mass (GCM) rating of 65 tonnes and are fitted with dual fuel tanks with capacities of 480 litres and 400 litres respectively, helping to extend operating range between refuelling stops.
Safety remains a key focus. All models feature a steel cab structure and rigid cab design compliant with European ECE R29 standards. Standard equipment includes an electronic braking system with ABS and ASR, a driver airbag and full LED lighting.
Driver convenience has also been considered, with each model fitted with an integrated refrigerator, allowing food and beverages to be stored during long journeys.
With the introduction of the new Base and Line Haul derivatives, Mercedes-Benz Trucks has further expanded its offering in Southern Africa, providing transport operators with additional choices across a range of freight and logistics applications.
