This, says Jeep, is a concept - but it's one that's ready for production. All it needs is a name, and that's where you come in.
Chrysler calls this a production-intent concept version of the Grand Cherokee, and it's on show to the public for the first time at the Houston auto show in Texas, along with a competition to name the new model.
And, of course, the winner will get one.
Jeep boss Mike Manley explained: “The Grand Cherokee concept is edgy and aggressive, highlighted by a special platinum-chrome front-end treatment, distinctive gloss black 20” rims and special exterior trim.
“Jeep enthusiasts have always appreciated limited-edition models and the ability to customise their cars; this one comes with a 'factory-customised' stealth look right out of the box.
“We're looking for feedback at the Houston auto show and from the online 'Name my Ride' competition, and, if the reaction from the public is as positive as we think it will be, it'll be in Jeep showrooms across the US in the second quarter of the year.”
The concept starts with the Laredo X package, but with black headlight bezels, a black grille surround and platinum chrome mesh grille. There's also a platinum chrome bash plate in the textured black plastic front bumper, while a black liftgate light-bar continues the 'dark side' theme around the back.
It runs on special, gloss black 20” rims shod with low-profile street tyres.
The interior boasts full leather trim (black, naturally) with heatable front seats, a nine-speaker, 506watt sound system with subwoofer and iPod/MP3 connectivity, rear parking camera and sensors, keyless entry and start, and hands-free internet connectivity.
The concept on display in Houston is the black one you see here, but there will also be a deep cherry-red version on show at the Washington DC auto show from Friday.
NAME MY RIDE
Starting today, Jeep will compile entries online and narrow them down to three finalists, which will be announced on the competition website. Then the public will be invited to vote online for the winning name, which will be announced in May.
And whoever submitted the winning name will have a chance to win a new 2012 Grand Cherokee.
