The DA’s deputy spokesperson on sport, arts and culture, Liam Jacobs has congratulated South African Middleweight boxer-mixed martial artist Dricus du Plessis for successfully defending his UFC title in Australia on Sunday morning.

Du Plessis, the first South African to win an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title, defeated Nigerian-born Israel Adesanya by submission in the fourth round of the bout.

Jacobs said the DA extends its warmest congratulations to Dricus du Plessis on his monumental victory against Israel Adesanya and defending his UFC middleweight title in Perth, Australia. “This triumph is more than just a win in the octagon; it is a shining example of South African excellence on the global stage.”

Jacobs said Dricus has demonstrated the power of hard work, dedication, and an unyielding spirit, qualities that resonate deeply with all South Africans.
