The ANC's first deputy secretary-general, Nomvula Mokonyane, says the party is not stalling the move to bring in new leaders to help in the reconfiguration of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
Mokonyane stated that at the moment, the party is still busy with matters of national interest that take priority over internal party matters.
Mokonyane addressed the media on Sunday in Pietermaritzburg regarding the matter after being questioned by journalists about the progress on the matter.
The ANC’s national leaders were expected to announce leaders that would be sent to the province to strengthen the provincial leadership. The names of the leaders were expected to be announced last week
This was after the ANC made a decision that the KZN and Gauteng Provincial Executive Committee must be strengthened following poor election results.
Mokonyane emphasised that matters of national interest take precedence over party matters.
"We could take a decision that we are meeting tomorrow to resolve on KZN, but if there has to be a lekgotla of the ANC, let’s rather do that. If there has to be any other thing, we must remind everybody that no one has been expelled from the ANC, and we have no intention of chasing anyone away.
"The intention is renewal; we are taking our time because we mean business, and we don’t want to hurt the movement. We will come in with interventions that help us to grow, to be better, and to help us understand KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in terms of its dynamics."
She added that there is no deadline to deal with the issue.
“We are still busy with other matters, including the State of the Nation Address that is coming up," she said.
