Werner Wessels, renowned for his expertise in the world of pageantry, has officially stepped down as the Creative Director of the Miss South Africa (Miss SA) organisation.
His departure marks the end of a remarkable chapter that significantly influenced South Africa’s success in international beauty competitions.
During his tenure, Wessels played a pivotal role in guiding several South African queens to victory on the global stage.
Notable achievements include mentoring Zozibini Tunzi (Miss Universe 2019), Demi-Leigh Tebow (née Nel-Peters, Miss Universe 2017), and Lalela Mswane (Miss Supranational 2022).
In a heartfelt announcement on Friday, Wessels confirmed his decision to leave the organisation.
Reflecting on his journey, he shared on Instagram, “This journey has been a dream come true, a journey filled with purpose, passion, and pride. I’m immensely proud of the work we have done and the impact I’ve made. I will forever be grateful to the Miss South Africa Organization for entrusting me with the responsibility that comes with this role I created.”
Expressing his gratitude to contestants and past winners, Wessels pledged to continue supporting and empowering women in South Africa.
Wessels’ passion for uplifting women was a consistent theme throughout his career.
He emphasised, “I have always said I want my career to be a love letter to women, a celebration of their courage, brilliance, and limitless potential. It is a tribute to South African women who, despite challenges, rise above and continue to inspire.”
He also highlighted his deep love for South Africa and its resilient women.
“My love for this beautiful nation and its women, who are brave enough to believe not only in the power of their own dreams but also in the promise and potential of South Africa, is at the heart of everything I do.”
While bidding farewell to his role at Miss SA, Wessels hinted at exciting new ventures.
“While this marks the end of one chapter, it’s also the beginning of a new and exciting one. The best is yet to come, and I can’t wait to share what’s next. The letter continues to be written,” he concludes.
