The Miss Soweto organisation recently crowned a new queen and it’s Mbali Khumalo.

The 20-year-old psychology student from the University of the Witwatersrand has stepped into the spotlight, becoming the 45th queen in the illustrious history of this iconic pageant.

The new beauty queen walks into her mother’s shoes, Sibongile Sibiya, who was crowned Miss Soweto in her younger years.

“I would first like to thank God. He kept me going even during the toughest of times throughout my journey as a finalist and I know that He will continue to bless and protect me during my reign.

“I prayed and left it all up to God, and he gave me the biggest blessing of all,” she said.

Besides thanking her family and supporters, Khumalo also sent a special shout-out to the finalists who were also vying for the crown. She said she learned a lot from them throughout the journey.

“I am blessed to have met every single one of you and to hear your stories, cry for you and pray with you.

“I am honoured to have been surrounded by such strong women throughout the journey and I know you all will go on to do extraordinary things in your lives. You are all stars,” she said.

Khumalo impressed the judging panel of esteemed media personality Bridget Masinga, seasoned beauty editor Grace Mantjiu and newcomer Masego Seemela.

Meanwhile, Onthathile Mohuba shone as the first princess, while Boitumelo Molotsane claimed the title of the second princess.
