Celebrating a 300-year legacy is no small feat. But Rémy Martin found a way to not only celebrate 300 years of cognac mastery but also educate about the Rémy Martin brand.

A year-long celebration has been punctuated by events across the globe, even here in South Africa, from DJ Zinhle’s Zeenation Festival to the HollywoodBets Durban July.

“Being in partnership with the iconic brand, Rémy Martin has been an exceptional journey that has stood the test of time because of our shared values, which has seen us enter another year.

“It came at an excellent time as we celebrated major milestones in our journey; namely the 300th anniversary and my 20 years in the industry. It’s a pioneering moment for me so that others like me can also take up space,” said DJ Zinhle.

Rémy Martin didn’t stop with DJ Zinhle but also worked with renowned photographer Cedric Nzaka with a collaborative event series that gave a taste of contemporary culture.

Nzaka has become a well-known culture shift in South Africa, having photographed some of the country's top acts, changing the landscape of festival photography.

The festivities didn’t end with Nzaka. The House of Rémy Martin went on to mark the momentous 300 years of unparalleled cognac craftsmanship in the heart of Johannesburg, South Africa—in Africa’s richest square mile.

An exclusive gathering of South Africa’s most distinguished individuals, top radio presenters, stylists and music executives in one room, enjoying gourmet cuisine and the finest cognac and finest champagne.

The night began with an immersive sensory experience - sweet and salty- all paired with a neat glass of Rémy Martin. Each bite of something salty or sweet took tasters accompanied by a sip of Rémy Martin gave a unique experience.

A fourth-generation member of the Heriard Dubreuil family Marie-Amelie Jacquet attended the banquet. Jacquet, who is the chairman of the Board of Directors Rémy Martin broke bread with guests and she shared her insights into the values of Rémy Martin. An IOL Reporter sat down with Marie-Amélie to gain some further insights on her journey and what role she believes Rémy Martin plays in the emerging markets:

IOL Reporter: Marie-Amélie, you’ve grown up surrounded by the family’s cognac heritage. How has your personal journey shaped your approach to Rémy Martin's legacy and innovation?

Marie-Amélie: Growing up with the family’s cognac heritage has given me a deep respect for the traditions that have been passed down through generations. At the same time, my personal experiences, particularly in finance and global business, have shaped my belief in the importance of innovation. Balancing heritage with modernity is essential. I view Rémy Martin as a brand that honours its craftsmanship while continuously evolving, whether through sustainable practices or adopting new technologies to connect with clients. My journey has been about finding that harmony between preserving a legacy and embracing the future.

IOL Reporter: What role do you believe Rémy Martin can play in emerging markets like South Africa, where there is growing interest in premium spirits and a demand for unique experiences?

Marie-Amélie: Rémy Martin has the opportunity to become a key player in emerging markets like South Africa by offering not just a premium product but also a premium experience. There is a growing demand for authenticity, storytelling, and unique moments, and Rémy Martin’s heritage is perfectly suited to fulfil that desire. By creating bespoke events, collaborating with local influencers, and offering experiences that blend luxury with local culture, we can connect more deeply with consumers. Our goal is to introduce South African audiences to the richness of Cognac Fine Champagne while offering moments that are both memorable and meaningful.

The experience continued over dinner with each meal prepared by Michelin chef Rikku Marais-Ó'Donnchü transporting guests into food heaven. As the cocktails paired with each course flowed guests enjoyed the bespoke music from Xhosa folk and classical music duo Thesis ZA (Ayanda Charlie and Ondela Simakuhle).

As the year draws to a close, Rémy Martin will unveil limited edition gift packs, just in time for the holiday season, commemorating this historic occasion and immersing oneself in the unparalleled heritage of Rémy Martin.
