South Africans have spotted plenty of bold billboards over the years but Galito's may have just entered the chat with one that is impossible to ignore.
The popular South African flame-grilled chicken chain recently unveiled an advertisement declaring it has the "biggest, tastiest, cock on the block", and yes, the internet immediately understood the assignment.
Before anyone starts acting like they’ve never seen a bit of cheeky advertising in their live, Galito's is, of course, talking about a rooster. A chicken. Poultry. The feathered mascot of many a flame-grilled meal. But let's not pretend the marketing team didn't know exactly what they were doing.
The billboard has been turning heads and raising eyebrows thanks to its cheeky wordplay, with social media users sharing photos and having a good laugh at the slogan.
While some brands play it safe with predictable advertising, Galito's appears to have decided that subtlety was overrated.
To be fair, South African advertising has never been afraid of a little mischief. From hilarious radio spots to billboards that leave motorists questioning whether they read that correctly, local marketers know that getting people talking is often half the battle.
And talking is exactly what people are doing.
The slogan manages to walk the fine line between playful and provocative without actually crossing it. It is the kind of marketing that makes you look twice, laugh once and then immediately send a photo to your friends with the caption, "Surely they knew?"
One person commented: "Nandos needs to up their game 😮😂."
While another wrote: "😂 Did someone from Nando'd marketing team go to Galito's? lol."
Nando's has long set the tone with its bold, cheeky and sometimes politically loaded humour, often turning billboards into talking points across Mzansi. So when another chicken brand comes in swinging with equally provocative wordplay, it naturally sparks comparisons.
