Months of planning, meticulous preparation and extravagant design came together as thousands of guests descended on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse for the 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July.
While South Africa’s premier horse racing event delivered thrilling action on the track, the VIP marquees once again drew significant attention, offering guests hospitality, dining experiences and live entertainment.
This year’s theme, "Country Allure", extended beyond the fashion worn by racegoers. It was reflected in the décor, culinary offerings and entertainment, with each marquee interpreting the theme in its own way.
As the host city, Durban Tourism welcomed guests to its Coastal Allure Marquee, a space inspired by the city’s coastal setting.
The 2026 edition marked the 130th uninterrupted running of South Africa’s most prestigious horse race, with the marquee showcasing contemporary African-inspired décor.
Cowhide accents, plush scatter cushions and earthy textures complemented the "Country Allure" theme, creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Working alongside chefs from the Durban ICC, guests were served an extensive menu featuring chicken wraps, chicken skewers, butter chicken curry, oxtail, roast leg of lamb and a variety of desserts.
Entertainment throughout the day included performances by Mondli Ngcobo, DJ Happy Gal, Kabza De Small, DJ Merlon, Dankie Booi, DJ Tira, DJ Cndo and Boom Shaka.
One of the biggest talking points of this year's Hollywoodbets Durban July was the debut of The Ascots.
Spanning approximately 4,000 square metres across the southern lawns of the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse, the venue accommodated up to 4,000 guests.
Designed with white lounges, premium bars and an expansive open-air layout, the space offered a relaxed setting for racegoers.
The entertainment line-up featured a mix of international and local artists, including Swae Lee, Bryson Tiller, Masego, Shekhinah, Cassper Nyovest, Elaine and Tresor.
The food offering included slow-braised sticky pork ribs, grilled lamb, smoked Norwegian salmon blinis, fresh seasonal salads and a live meat-carving station.
Reflecting on the success of the event, eThekwini Mayor Mr Cyril Xaba said that The Ascots highlighted Durban's ability to stage world class lifestyle and entertainment events that appeal to both local and international visitors.
“Events of this calibre make a meaningful contribution to our visitor economy, create opportunities for local businesses and strengthen eThekwini's position as a leading destination for tourism, culture and investment. We welcome initiatives that continue to raise our city's global profile while delivering lasting economic benefits for our communities."

For racegoers wanting to be close to the action, the JC Le Roux Marquee offered views alongside the racecourse.
Its al fresco viewing deck allowed guests to watch the horses race past just metres away.
Decorated in the brand's signature red and gold palette, the marquee featured a lively atmosphere throughout the day.
The menu included house pulled beef sliders, teriyaki chicken skewers, mini street-style tacos and loaded chicken nachos, along with desserts such as cookie fries and a marshmallow brownie sundae.
While guests enjoyed the hospitality on offer, the horse racing action unfolding directly in front of the marquee remained the main attraction.
The 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July once again combined horse racing, fashion, entertainment, dining and hospitality, drawing thousands of guests to Durban's biggest social and sporting event.
