Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is confident Lyle Foster will find his scoring boots before the Fifa World Cup kicks off.

Hugo Broos is the architect of Bafana Bafana’s modern rebuild. The Belgian tactician took charge in 2021, inheriting a side lacking structure, confidence and identity, and immediately imposed tactical discipline, squad stability and a simplified playing philosophy built on efficiency over flair.
A 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winner with Cameroon, Broos is widely respected for his ability to rebuild teams through organisation and clarity rather than complexity.
His tenure has been defined by consistency in selection, defensive solidity and trust in domestic-based players. Under his leadership, Bafana Bafana qualified for the FIFA World Cup in North America, marking their return to football’s biggest stage for the first time since 2010.
Helman Mkhalele is Broos’ closest technical ally and one of the most influential figures in the setup. A former Bafana Bafana winger with strong international experience, he brings tactical insight and player relatability to the bench.
Mkhalele plays a hands-on role in training, particularly in attacking transitions, wide play structure and forward movement.
Beyond coaching duties, he is a key motivational figure and a bridge between the technical staff and players. His long-standing presence in South African football has made him one of the most respected figures in the national team environment.
Grant Johnson is responsible for the development and performance of Bafana Bafana’s goalkeepers. His work is built on detail, repetition and match-specific preparation, focusing on positioning, distribution and set-piece organisation.
Johnson has been instrumental in refining the national team’s shot-stoppers to fit Broos’ defensive structure. He is regarded as a calm, detail-driven coach who prioritises consistency and composure, particularly in tournament football environments.
Sinesipho Mali leads the performance analysis department and has been central to modernising Bafana Bafana’s tactical preparation.
He has been part of the national setup for several years, playing a key role in their AFCON semi-final run and World Cup qualification campaign.
Mali oversees scouting, opposition breakdowns and tactical reporting for the coaching staff. His leadership has positioned him as a succession-driven figure within Safa’s technical structure.
Mukandatsama operates within the travelling analysis unit under Mali. With prior experience at Sekhukhune United and Mamelodi Sundowns, he specialises in match analysis, data interpretation and tactical trend identification.
His role includes breaking down opposition structures and producing visual and statistical reports for coaches. He represents the new generation of analysts blending data science with football intelligence, with increased importance in tournament turnaround periods.
Valodia, currently with Lamontville Golden Arrows, joins the expanded analysis unit with experience from Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa’s U17 national team, including a FIFA U17 World Cup.
He focuses on opposition analysis and structural breakdowns from a domestic base, feeding into the wider technical network.
Bishop operates remotely from Belgium, providing European-based tactical insights and opposition monitoring.
He previously worked with Mamelodi Sundowns, where he developed a reputation for detailed scouting and profiling. He now forms part of Bafana’s global analysis bridge, working closely with the South Africa-based team to deliver real-time tactical intelligence.
Modise is one of the youngest analysts in the setup, linked to the South Africa U20 team and part of a Swaziland treble-winning project with Nsingizini Hotspurs.
He is regarded for his strong tactical instincts, particularly in reading in-game patterns and transitions. His inclusion reflects SAFA’s succession planning approach.
Vincent Tseka is the team manager of Bafana Bafana, overseeing logistics, travel coordination, camp planning and administrative operations. He acts as the link between technical staff and SAFA structures, ensuring smooth preparation environments.
A long-serving administrator across multiple national team cycles, he is valued for stability and organisation, although his tenure has at times attracted public scrutiny linked to broader SAFA operational discussions. He remains a key figure in the World Cup preparation structure.
