In a significant development for the creator economy, South Africa Innovation Week 2026 (SAIW’26) has announced an exciting collaboration with Creator Hub to present a specially curated programme.

Set to take place from 18–20 March 2026 at NASREC, Johannesburg, this collaboration will anchor the “Influence with Innovation” track, emphasising how creators are not only reshaping cultural narratives but also driving innovation, economic participation, and technological adoption across the continent.

The Creator Hub Programme aims to gather leading digital creators, platform experts, and industry stakeholders to delve into how content creation has transitioned from mere online expression to a vital economic sector.

Through a series of curated sessions, live discussions, and engaging panels, the programme will explore the transformative role of creators in the employment landscape.

Buntu Majaja, CEO of SA Innovation Summit, said, “Creators today are not only influencing culture; they are influencing how products are designed, how platforms evolve, and how audiences engage with technology.” This shift signals an increasing recognition of creators as entrepreneurs, technologists, and cultural figures.

Central to this discourse are five key themes shaping the creator landscape:

  • Creators as drivers of innovation
  • The evolving creator technology stack
  • Platform insights into audience behaviour
  • Monetisation pathways in the creator economy
  • The future of immersive and community-driven storytelling

These themes will serve as the foundation for discussions on how creators can leverage digital platforms to forge sustainable careers while actively contributing to ongoing innovation initiatives.

Among the notable figures confirmed for the programme are prominent South African creators such as Mickie TV, Michelle Expert, Reggie Mohlabi, Fresh Now content creator Zayaan 4, Lerato Mokoka, and Ndivhuwo Dlamini, who will share their insights into navigating the new economic landscape.

Botlhale Boikanyo is set to moderate the opening day discussions, ensuring diverse voices are heard from across the creator spectrum, from digital education and lifestyle content to tech-driven storytelling.

The partnership with industry stakeholders is also instrumental in this initiative.

Koketso Phala from Lucky No.8, representing Netflix Publicity, will present invaluable platform insights on audience behaviour and trends, while the creative agency 180by2 will provide practical knowledge on how evolving technology and production ecosystems are enhancing creator storytelling capabilities.

These discussions will focus on innovative tools such as artificial intelligence, wearable tech, and 360-degree cameras that are lowering entry barriers and fostering a new generation of storytellers.

The operational side of the creator economy will also be unveiled, exploring workflows, monetisation pathways, and effective brand collaboration strategies.

This vital discourse aims to illustrate how creative storytelling can evolve into robust business models underpinned by technology and strategic partnerships.

“Startups have never competed on product alone,” notes Bongani Baloyi, filmmaker and founder of Creator Hub. “For African startups seeking to create jobs, distribution is not just a marketing layer; it is part of the innovation itself.”

As the creator economy gains momentum globally, SAIW’26 aims to position South Africa as a leader in emerging forms of innovation driven by talent, technology, and storytelling. This commitment to showcasing innovation beyond traditional sectors reflects a broader understanding of cultural production and digital entrepreneurship as critical engines of economic growth.
