Allan Gray Orbis Foundation opens applications for 2026 Fellowship Programme

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation has officially opened applications for its 2026 Fellowship Programme, aimed at Grade 12 learners eager to embark on a journey towards university and entrepreneurship.

With applications closing on 30 April 2026, this opportunity merges financial support with the development of crucial entrepreneurial skills for aspiring South African innovators.

The Fellowship is more than just a financial stepping stone, it stands as a gateway for young minds to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset and promote personal growth, according to Allan Gray.

"Recognising the dire need for impactful leadership within the community, this programme equips successful candidates with the necessary tools to not only excel in their academic pursuits but also to create meaningful social change," Allan Gray said in a statement. 

Successful candidates, known as Allan Gray Fellows, will benefit from needs-based university funding tailored to their individual financial circumstances.

This funding can cover tuition fees, living expenses, and more, enabling learners to concentrate fully on their studies.

Additionally, the Fellowship provides access to a network of industry mentors who can guide and inspire them along their entrepreneurial journeys.

The Foundation is specifically targeting high-achieving matriculants from the class of 2026, encouraging those with a strong drive to impact South Africa’s future to apply.

Eligibility and Application Process

To be considered for the Fellowship, applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria:

• The applicant must be a South African citizen.
• The applicant must be under the age of 21 in the year of application.
• A minimum of 60% in pure Mathematics or a minimum of 80% in Mathematical Literacy for final Grade 11 results.
• A minimum average of 70% for final Grade 11 results (excluding Life Orientation).
• An intention to enrol in one of the following fields at recognised South African universities: Commerce, Science, Engineering, Law, Humanities, Arts & Health Sciences (excluding Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Dentistry).
• For funding considerations, applicants with a combined annual household income of R1 million and below will be eligible for full funding, while those above this threshold will receive needs-based funding.
