June 16: Nando's Hot Young Designer competition closes
Young creatives have until Youth Day on June 16 to submit their entries for the annual Nando's Hot Young Designer competition, one of South Africa's most recognised platforms for emerging designers.
This year's challenge calls on aspiring furniture and interior designers to create an original linear lighting fixture, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their talent to industry leaders and potentially gain exposure in commercial spaces both locally and internationally.
The competition has become a valuable launchpad for young designers looking to break into the creative industry, making it a fitting Youth Month opportunity for those hoping to turn their passion into a profession.
June 13: KZN Youth Run encourages fitness and community spirit
The focus shifts to sport on June 13 with the KZN Youth Run at the Kings Park Rugby Outer Fields in Durban.
Hosted by KZN Athletics, the event features a competitive 10km race alongside a 5km fun run and walk, attracting school athletes, fitness enthusiasts and families from across the province.
The annual event aims to promote healthy lifestyles among young people while creating a vibrant atmosphere where participants can challenge themselves and celebrate their achievements.
June 14: Comrades Marathon weekend energises the province
On June 14, the world-famous Comrades Marathon will once again draw thousands of runners and spectators between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
While not exclusively a youth event, the marathon forms a major part of the Youth Day long weekend in KwaZulu-Natal, with schools, youth organisations and community groups often volunteering along the route and supporting runners throughout the race.
For many young South Africans, the event offers an opportunity to engage with one of the country's most iconic sporting traditions while contributing to community initiatives.
Throughout June: Innovation and education take centre stage
Youth-focused education and technology initiatives are also expected to take place across the province throughout June.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has been strengthening specialised learning opportunities through projects such as the Mbuso Kubheka ICT, Engineering and Technology School of Excellence.
Schools and community centres are expected to host coding hackathons, mathematics indabas, youth choir performances and other Fourth Industrial Revolution-focused activities aimed at equipping learners with future-ready skills.
