Tributes are pouring in on social media following the sudden death of popular actress and singer, Winnie Khumalo, who became a household name in the music industry for her hit song "Live My Life".

Her death has sent shockwaves across the country, as she was loved by many for her exceptional singing talent.

Khumalo’s death was confirmed by Tshephi Rakeepile, the family spokesperson, that Khumalo died on Tuesday after a short illness.

Rakeepile revealed that the 51-year-old Soweto-born singer,died on her way to hospital to seek medical attention.

“But unfortunately, on their drive to the hospital, that's when she passed away, because when they arrived at the hospital, they pronounced the death on arrival,” she said.

Khumalo’s death left the family in deep sorrow and the entertainment industry mourning.

She is survived by her daughter, singer Rethabile Khumalo and her son, Thabo Khumalo, who she had with the late boxing champion Dingaan Thobela. She also leaves three grandchildren.

The cause of Khumalo's death is not known at the moment.

Following her death, industry mates, fans and supporters flooded to social media with tributes, expressing shock and sadness.

The Kalawa Jazmee Records, the record label that Khumalo had worked with, described her as a true icon, who made a remarkable contribution to the South African music scene.

The record label labeled her a “true icon” for inspiring many with her powerful voice and unforgettable performances.

“Her passion, talent, and dedication to her craft have left an indelible mark on the industry and in the hearts of her fans,” the label said in a statement.

“We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Winnie Khumalo,” the label added.

Music producer @djmahoota took to Instagram to express deep sadness over Khumalo’s death.

“Saddened by the passing of such a great jewel, a star, a businesswoman, one of @kakawajazmeer’s prodigy. Condolences to the family, close relatives and fans. RIPWinnieKhumalo 💔💔💔💔💔,” he wrote.

Singer @tshedimalaika wrote: “😪😪This is shocking @winnie_khumalo 💔 Lala ngozolo sisi.”

Legendary Actor @dr_jerry_official said: “Winnie Khumalo - RIP Girl!!!! Definitely gone too soon. Thank you for your authentic portrayal of Brenda Fassie in Ma-Brr way back in 2010. What a loss. Hamba Kahle Sisi."

Meanwhile, the date of the memorial service to honour the late singer and the burial has not been announced yet.
