Some songs do not just live on your playlist; they move into your brain, unpack their bags and refuse to leave. "Jerusalema" is one such track.
A TikTok video showing Kylie Jenner dancing to the global hit has resurfaced, and South Africans are once again reminded that Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode basically delivered a musical passport that never expires.
The clip shows Kylie attempting the iconic "Jerusalema" dance moves during a beach moment in Turks and Caicos, looking very much like someone who has heard the song in her sleep at least once. And by the looks of it, sis is having a good time.
When Jerusalema dropped in 2019, it did not ask for permission to go global. It simply walked into churches, airports, weddings, nursing homes and government offices like it owned the place.
Then came the dance challenge, and the whole world was doing coordinated footwork that they definitely practised in secret.
Moments like this always spark the familiar South African internet reaction of recognition mixed with pride, where a local hit shows up in global celebrity spaces, and the comment sections immediately turn into a scoreboard of who discovered it first versus who is still catching up.
Now Jenner is in the mix, and Mzansi is watching like “ah, so it has reached your timeline too”.
Nomcebo Zikode has previously reflected on the song’s global success, saying it proves South African music is world-class.
"Jerusalema" is a long-term resident in all our heads. And clearly Jenner agrees, too.
