“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” the fourth and final movie in the romantic-comedy film franchise, is set to take viewers on a wild ride when it premières in February.
Based on the book series by Helen Fielding, this latest instalment, directed by Michael Morris, will see Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson reprising their roles alongside other cast members such as Jim Broadbent, Sarah Solemani, Sally Phillips, Shirley Henderson, James Callis, Neil Pearson, Joanna Scanlan and Celia Imrie.
They will be joined by newcomers including “One Day” star Leo Woodall as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Isla Fisher, Nico Parker, Josette Simon and Leila Farzad.
It will be released on Peacock in the US and other countries on February 13. It is still unclear when and where it will drop in South Africa.
The movie’s official plot synopsis reads: “Bridget is alone once again, widowed four years ago, when Mark (Colin Firth) was killed on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan.”
“She’s now a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel and is stuck in a state of emotional limbo, raising her children with help from her loyal friends and even her former lover, Daniel Cleaver (Grant).”
“Pressured by her Urban Family, Shazzer, Jude and Tom, her work colleague Miranda, her mother and her gynaecologist Dr. Rawlings (Thompson), to forge a new path toward life and love, Bridget goes back to work and even tries out the dating apps, where she’s soon pursued by a dreamy and enthusiastic younger man (Woodall).”
“Now juggling work, home and romance, Bridget grapples with the judgment of the perfect mums at school, worries about Billy as he struggles with the absence of his father, and engages in a series of awkward interactions with her son’s rational-to-a-fault science teacher (Ejiofor).”
Meanwhile, the trailer reveals Bridget’s emotional anguish over the loss of Mark as she tries to keep her family together without him.
The titular character, who is portrayed as a romantic, imperfect and relatable woman, captivated the hearts of scores of people across the globe since “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” the first movie in the franchise, was released in 2001.
It was followed by “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” in 2004 and “Bridget Jones’s Baby” in 2016.
