DJ Shimza recently took to Instagram to give fans an unfiltered, behind-the-scenes look at the gruelling reality of life on the road.
The globally acclaimed, Mzansi-born DJ is currently in the middle of a massive European run. He kicked things off in France at Marseille's Isula Festival, a three-day celebration of Corsican culture, before jetting off to Italy to command the decks at Space Riccione, the world-renowned superclub on the Romagna Riviera.
The momentum doesn't stop there. Tomorrow, June 4, he is set to perform at the iconic Pacha Ibiza in Spain, the island’s original nightlife institution.
He will later return to the legendary venue on June 18 to join Grammy Award-winning popstar Tyla for a massive closing party.
But behind the packed dancefloors, late-night sets, and early-morning flights lies a much more exhausting routine.
Sharing a photo of himself catching some much-needed sleep on an airport couch in Frankfurt, Shimza opened up about the hidden toll of global touring:
"The other side that requires resilience. Last night I finished at 3am after a full day of travel and went straight to the airport for a 6am flight. It’s now almost 16:00 and I’m still on the road, one cancelled flight, rebooked onto another airline, an extra connection, and now another delay.
"The happy 30-second videos from the shows rarely show this side of what we do. The travel, the uncertainty, the long hours, and the constant adapting and still showing up at the highest level. It’s all part of the journey, and I’m grateful to be able to do what I love. 😊🙏🏾."
The post struck a chord with fellow artists and industry insiders, who quickly flooded the comments section with their own airport horror stories and words of solidarity.
International DJ and producer DJEFF related to the airport struggle in real-time, commenting: "I'm here too jus lost my flight as well. Coming to meet at the lounge 😅."

"It’s now 16:18 and our flight that was initially meant to take off at 15:00 is now taking off at 18:30 after being moved 5 times 🥹The WiFi is shoddy, the lounges were full but we eventually got in, and we’re exhausted.
"But damn… the weekend was amazing!!! The work has been amazing. But ya… the in between… not so amazing 😮💨."
While fans only see the high-energy 30-second clips of roaring crowds, Shimza and his peers remind us that global success requires an immense amount of patience, sacrifice and pure resilience.
