Johannesburg - There will be no load shedding in Joburg on Thursday.

City Power consultant Hloni Motloung said because of various contingency measures which the utility had put in place to mitigate load shedding, residents would today get a reprieve.

On Wednesday there was partial load shedding due to the failure of one generator.

City Power this week announced the launch of a load-limiting programme from May 1 where 65 000 smart meters would be monitored. The owners will be informed via SMSes on their cellphones and smart meters to reduce usage, and if they fail to do so, they will be remotely disconnected until the end of load shedding.

“Our efforts are paying off. We have put a notice on our website informing people the lights will stay on today,” he said.
