AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has once again removed ReverendThulasizwe Buthelezi from the position of Traditional Prime Minister, ushering in a fresh leadership change within the Zulu Nation's traditional structures.
The announcement was made on Tuesday morning through the King's spokesperson, Mpikayise Buthelezi, who confirmed that Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza has been appointed to take over the role with immediate effect.
“The Office of His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini hereby announces that His Majesty has formally terminated the appointment of Reverend Thulasizwe Dominic Buthelezi as the Traditional Prime Minister (uNdunankulu) of the Zulu Nation.
“The decision was effected by His Majesty in accordance with Clause 7 of the Appointment and Mandate concluded on 2 December 2025, which vests in His Majesty the sole prerogative to terminate the appointment by written notice.
Reverend Buthelezi has accordingly been released from all duties, responsibilities, and authority associated with the Office of the Traditional Prime Minister,” read the statement.
The King thanked Reverend Buthelezi for his service during his tenure and wished him well in his future endeavours.
At the same time, he expressed confidence in Inkosi Chiliza's ability to lead in the role.
The King said he had full confidence in Chiliza's leadership, wisdom and commitment to the Zulu Throne.
He also called on members of the Royal House, amakhosi, izinduna, traditional structures and the broader Zulu Nation to support the newly appointed Traditional Prime Minister as he assumes his responsibilities.
"The Office of His Majesty the King further advises that, with immediate effect, all official correspondence, engagements, and matters relating to the Office of the Traditional Prime Minister shall be directed to Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza in his capacity as Traditional Prime Minister (uNdunankulu) of the Zulu Nation,” the statement said.
Buthelezi, a senior IFP leader and KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, was initially appointed Traditional Prime Minister in early 2024.
He was subsequently removed from the position in December that year before being reappointed. Tuesday's announcement marks his latest removal from the influential role.
