Burglars have once again targeted the Bryanston home of prominent advocate Muzi Sikhakhane SC, more than a decade after thieves previously made off with sensitive documents linked to some of South Africa's most high-profile political figures.
Police confirmed that Sikhakhane's residence was broken into during the early hours of Saturday morning, with suspects stealing a laptop, a computer monitor and several bottles of alcohol.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the incident is being investigated as a housebreaking case.
"Police in Randburg are investigating a housebreaking case after a house of a prominent advocate was broken into at Bryanston in the early hours of Saturday," said Nevhuhulwi.
"The suspect/s reportedly stole a laptop, a monitor and some bottles of alcohol.
"No one has been arrested and police investigations are underway."
The latest break-in echoes a similar incident in 2012 when burglars raided Sikhakhane's home and stole documents belonging to several of his high-profile clients, including former president Jacob Zuma and former minister Tokyo Sexwale.
Sikhakhane is one of South Africa's most prominent legal figures and has been involved in several matters of national significance.
He represented Zuma at the Zondo Commission and in the long-running arms deal case, and is the founder of the Pan African Bar Association of South Africa.
More recently, he has acted for former State Security Agency director-general Arthur Fraser in the Phala Phala matter and represented KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in a defamation case in the Durban High Court.
Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the latest burglary.
