The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued an important alert to South African consumers regarding a significant product recall affecting specific Ford Transit and Transit / Tourneo Custom passenger vehicles.

This recall, initiated by Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Manufacturing) (Pty) Ltd, encompasses 582 vehicles from the 2022 to 2026 model years, sold nationwide between 2021 and 2025.

At the core of this recall is a potential defect associated with the H7 AGM battery installed in these vehicles.

The automotive giant has reported that these batteries may emit a noxious, rotten egg-like smell within the vehicle's cabin.

Drivers and passengers might also hear hissing sounds or notice visible gas venting from the battery area.

Alarmingly, the temperature around the seat area in these vehicles may feel unusually warm as the battery temperature rises.

Ford has cautioned that such increased temperatures could lead to a chemical reaction, producing harmful hydrogen sulphide gas. Prolonged exposure to this gas poses potential health risks to those inside the vehicle.

In light of these concerns, owners of the impacted models are strongly advised to take immediate action.

Ford recommends visiting their nearest authorised dealership for necessary repairs, which will be conducted at no cost to consumers.

The company is committed to ensuring the safety of its customers, providing reassurance that all corrective work will be handled promptly and professionally.

For any inquiries relating to this recall, the NCC encourages consumers to reach out through the dedicated email address: [email protected].
