Uber South Africa has launched a partnership support ecosystem for drivers on the platform with industry leaders including Telesure, Dunlop, Kilomita, and Shoprite, aimed at significantly improving earning opportunities.
The package, announced at Uber South Africa's flagship “The Heart of the City” event to formally recognise participating drivers on the platform, aims to tackle the primary pain points of the transport business — fuel, maintenance, insurance, and cash flow.
The event honoured the country's top earners, including the Driver of the Year, who received a new electric vehicle from Valternative, a fleet partner operating on the Uber platform.
General Manager for Uber Sub-Saharan Africa, Deepesh Thomas, said that by streamlining the costs associated with independent work, Uber is strengthening the overall economic value proposition for every driver.
“By negotiating these deals at scale, we are helping drivers manage daily operational costs, ensuring that the Uber platform remains a resilient pathway to economic participation.”
The ecosystem includes SmartOps vehicle financing, through which drivers can now access tailored and affordable vehicle financing and ownership solutions designed specifically for their earning model, helping them build assets and scale their businesses sustainably.
Through a collaboration with ROHM Media, drivers can install digital taxi-top advertising screens on their vehicles, unlocking the opportunity to earn up to R5,000 in additional monthly income.
As part of the fuel and maintenance support offering, Kilomita provides drivers with direct fuel savings to reduce daily operating expenses, while Dunlop offers significant tyre discounts to ease the financial pressure of vehicle upkeep.
Telesure has been roped in to help drivers gain access to tailored and competitively priced insurance solutions that reflect their professional status.
Through Shoprite, drivers will have access to discounted funeral insurance and affordable cross-border remittance solutions, helping them protect their loved ones and send money home with greater ease.
A strategic partnership with October Health will help drivers access a comprehensive digital support ecosystem designed to assist with mental wellbeing, stress management, and professional skills development.
“Every trip taken on the platform represents a pulse of economic activity. Today is about recognising that contribution while providing the practical, bottom-line support that drivers need to thrive. We aren't just celebrating their hard work; we are supporting the sustainability of their businesses,” Thomas said.
Uber also emphasised its partnership with Aura, which provides every driver with in-app access to a best-in-class panic button connected to armed response, medical emergency services, and roadside assistance. Live trip details are shared in real time at no cost to the driver.
